After a very slow first quarter of 2024, Regulatory Affairs hiring appears to be rebounding, with a 20% increase in open Regulatory roles in April 2024 as compared to April 2023.
In order to understand companies’ Regulatory hiring plans and challenges for the remainder of 2024, Dennis Partners conducted an online survey of industry executives, decision-makers, and HR professionals during the week of May 20, 2024. The study consisted of two questions as follows:
1. Are you planning to hire Regulatory Affairs Professionals in 2024?
A majority of respondents (66%) tell us they are not planning to hire regulatory professionals in 2024. Among those who are hiring, there is a higher preference for permanent employees (22%) compared to contract employees (11%).
2. What is the biggest challenge you face when hiring Regulatory Affairs employees?
The biggest challenge in hiring Regulatory Affairs employees by far is the lack of qualified candidates, cited by nearly 67% of respondents, with one detailing the difficulty of finding candidates with a “specific type of oncology experience”.
Competing offers from other employers was cited as the second biggest challenge by nearly 17% of respondents. 16% of respondents selected ‘Other’ reasons, with one highlighting the financial state of their company being a significant hiring obstacle.
Overwhelmingly, companies reiterated that their biggest challenge in hiring Regulatory Affairs professionals was a lack of qualified candidates at nearly 67% of respondents, compared to nearly 47% when we asked the same question in 2021.
