Regulatory CMC Vice President for a Commercial-Stage Biopharma Company

Client background

Our client is a leading provider of non-opioid pain management and regenerative health solutions.  They have three approved products on the market, and a pipeline of development programs across a variety of modalities.  They have over 700 employees and an established Regulatory team.

Challenge

This company was seeking a new Vice President Regulatory CMC to lead CMC Regulatory strategies for their commercial and development programs, and oversee an established team.  This was replacing the incumbent VP who planned to retire in early 2024. Ideally they wanted somebody with Regulatory CMC experience across small molecules/sterile products, biologics and medical devices if possible. They also wanted somebody with strong team leadership experience.  They preferred somebody local to the San Diego area who could come into their office and manufacturing facility regularly, but were open to remote candidates as well. Our client was not successful sourcing candidates on their own.

Approach

Dennis Partners conducted a Retained Search to find the best possible candidates for our client. We kicked off the search in late October, focusing our search on Regulatory CMC VPs, Executive Directors, and Senior Directors across the United States. We considered candidates with a mix of small molecule/sterile products, biologics and medical device backgrounds.

Result

Within two weeks of kicking off this search, we submitted eight candidates who matched the required qualifications.  Our client screened all of them, and then advanced their top two candidates for onsite interviews with a panel of executives across Regulatory, Quality, Manufacturing, and HR.   They unanimously agreed to hire the top candidate, who was local to the San Diego area AND had Regulatory CMC experience across drugs, biologics, and devices.  Dennis Partners helped to check references and negotiate the offer.  The candidate accepted the offer in late December – within 60 days from the kickoff meeting – and joined the company in early February.
